21st Elbhangfest festival (June 24-26, 2011)

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

Dresden celebrates several festivals throughout the year. The Elbhangfest, a kind of an art festival, is one of the most famous ones in the city. It takes place every year on the last week end in June between the suburbs Loschwitz and Pillnitz. This year already for the 21st time.
Over 200 events as concerts, lectures, markets and a big parade are offered to the guests along the picturesque slopes of the Elbe river. This year’s theme is ‘Odole mio’ referring to Mr. Karl August Lingner who lived in Dresden at the beginning of the 20th century. He became well known for the invention of the German mouth wash ‘Odol’ and the foundation of the Museum of Hygiene. (Anke)

Most of them take place in the Old and New Town, the stadium, the university and the churches of course.
The first highlights are the opening service and the Evening of Encounters on Wednesday. More than 200,000 visitors are expected! The day will conclude with a sea of lights from 150,000 candles on both sides of the River Elbe.
We wish all guests a joyful festival in Dresden!
