Dresden City Festival

Dresden is celebrating its annual festival this weekend (19-21 August). It is a unique possibility for you to see the city in exceptional circumstances! There will be lot of entertainment in the Old as well as in the New Town across the river.

Musical entertainment with classic and rock is offered on a stage in front of the Semper Opera House.

Do not miss the highlight of the weekend – the historical paddle steamer fleet at 6.30 PM on Saturday! You will see all our nine historical paddle steamers starting together from the pier next to the Augustus Bridge.

If you want to know more about Dresden, its history and culture, come to our guided tours which are offered daily , also during this weekend, at 11 AM, starting at the Schlossplatz Square. (Anke Winkler)

1st Zwinger Festival

The courtyard of the Zwinger is used in August as the venue for the 1st Zwinger Festival which is staged by the German director Dieter Wedel.

The modern open-air theatre, which is only performed in German, is named ‘The king’s mistress’ and starts at 8.30 PM. It is a play about love, intrigues and policy at the Saxon royal court in the 18th century.

The main characters are Augusts the Strong and Countess of Cosel. Most of the performers are German actors.
