The 41st International Dixieland Festival starts on May 17th. National and international Jazz musicians, bands and their music lovers meet in Dresden until May 22nd. Numerous concerts in different places in the city, as well as countless smaller and bigger events as the ‘Riverboat Shuffle’ on the paddle steamers of the Saxon Steamboat Company are offered. Bands will perform on eight stages between Dresden Main Station and Altmarkt Square the next day before the traditional final parade through the center attracts thousands of spectators on Sunday afternoon.
Music in the city continues with the 34th Dresden Music Festival from May 18th – June 5th which is a continuation of the former festivals of the Saxon electors. This year’s motto is “Elements – Earth, fire, water, air und spirituality”. Visitors can expect many musical highlights e.g. from the Berlin and New York Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dresden Choir of the Holy Cross and more in different places as the Semper Opera House, the Frauenkirche, the Transparent Factory as well as open air on the Brühl’s Terrace.
