The Albertinum is the home of the New Masters Art Gallery and the Sculptures Collection. Since it was reconstructed, with its depot literally hanging under the roof now, it has gained a large, bright open space in its center that has been used extensively for events. The Dresden Philharmonic, on exile from its “Palace of Culture” home, has been of the beneficiaries. Now, in difficult times for Germany, the Dresden State Art Collections, owners of the Albertinum, have extended a warm welcome to refugees. With space getting tighter and tighter, they have opened their building for German classes, taking place in the afternoons. Volunteers have taken over the teaching. It is just one of many initiatives in Dresden to help the refugees settling in. A warm welcome indeed!
